The five mem­bers of Ensemble Meridiana met dur­ing their stud­ies at the Schola Cantorum in Basel, Switzerland where they spe­cial­ised in Baroque mu­sic. In March 2007 they won the first prize and the audi­ence prize in the 4th International Telemann Competition in Magdeburg, Germany. In July 2009, Ensemble Meridiana won the York International Young Artists Competition. Meridiana has en­joyed suc­cess­ful con­certs in in­ter­na­tional fest­ivals, such as Arolser Baroque Festival, Magdeburg Telemann Festival and in J.S. Bach’s house in Eisenach. In the sum­mer of 2008, Ensemble Meridiana toured Romania as rep­res­ent­at­ives of the Schola Cantorum. They also ap­peared on Romanian ra­dio and tele­vi­sion. After sell out con­certs in Basel and the Musical Instrument Museum in Berlin in January 2009, the en­semble ap­peared in the Summer Concerts of the Bach Archive Leipzig 2009 . In 2010 they will re­cord a CD for Linn Records and they have con­certs planned through­out Europe. Aside from play­ing with Meridiana, the groups mem­bers en­joy busy freel­ance or­ches­tral ca­reers with en­sembles such as Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, La Cetra Baroque Orchestra, Capriccio Basel, European Union Baroque Orchestra and the Norwegian Baroque Orchestra. The mu­si­cians play on cop­ies of ori­ginal Baroque in­stru­ments. The com­bin­a­tion of re­corder or bas­soon, oboe or re­corder, vi­olin, vi­ola da gamba and harp­si­chord of­fers a wide vari­ety of in­stru­ment com­bin­a­tions. The en­semble cov­ers a wide spec­trum of Baroque rep­er­toire and presents con­certs of var­ied and well-researched pro­grammes with many dif­fer­ent colours.
